Cedar Waxwings are a stunning bird. These were photographed at a local park not far from my home. It’s a place my wife and I walk a lot…and one day, seeing all these softening crab apples, I said to her, I can’t believe we aren’t seeing waxwings out here. The words no sooner came out of my mouth, when we rounded the bend in the walk, she looked up and said, aren’t those waxwings? There were several hundred birds in the tree tops!
Waxwings are flocking birds. It’s rare to see one alone and more common to find them in decently large groups. I spent about an hour with them a few days later, finding them for only one more day, in this park. Not a terrible way to spend some time in the outdoors.
