The American Queen is an iconic riverboat…modernized of course, but with the aesthetics of an old-time paddlewheel steamboat. It is simply a beautiful example of a boat-builders craftmanship. Living not far from the Mississippi River, I had the chance to see the boat several times as it toured the Upper Mississippi. In late October of 2022, it even made a short stop in Muscatine, giving me some time to spend with it at sunrise. This project (as viewed on my blog) includes a number of images from this year taken at various spots along the river. My favorite and most memorable would be the shots from North Buena Vista Iowa…which turned out to be a very exploratory stop, but the weather, the fall colors, and the light, all cooperated beautifully in the few minutes we had with the boat passing by.
