I’ve written in the past about the snowgeese migration in the spring. It is an epic experience to watch (and hear) tens of thousands of them get airborne all at once. The other part about western Missouri that I’ve noticed is the sunsets there can be quite nice. We have witnessed many that provide a stunning end to the day. I’m grateful for all of that.
But this image represents a bit of a mixed bag for me. I like it…I’m glad I captured it, but it is limited in what it can convey…it lacks the full power of the moment. I knew this going in, which is why I had planned on running video near sunset to capture an event like this…only I didn’t because in the moment I failed to press the record button enough to get it going. Afterwards of course you realize you totally missed the moment…and it is depressing.
But these mistakes are also opportunities. I committed that evening to spend more time on video work…to get better at it and more comfortable with it…and while I know it will take some practice and some effort, perhaps the next time an opportunity like this comes around, I’ll have something good to share that provides a more complete story of the energy, the power, and the overwhelm of the senses, that comes along with the snowgeese migration.
