Sandhill Cranes who roost on the Platte River at night will sometimes leave the water well before dawn. They can see quite well in low light so it could be because they are simply ready to go to nearby fields to begin feeding for the day. Or they may have been spooked by a predator of some kind. Most don’t care for Bald Eagles flying by and will take to the air as a defensive maneuver. Regardless of the reason, these departures at first light make it hard to photograph the birds in flight. But by slowing the shutter speed way down, one might get something interesting. This image was taken at 1/25th of a second.
