It’s awesome to have the colorful Cardinal in the backyard. On days when it snows they can become particularly numerous and active. Otherwise, it can be a challenge to get a good photograph, in good light, as they tend to feed really early, and really late, just before dark.
Of course you’ll catch them from time to time during any other part of the day, but when you’re this bright and colorful you really do stand out. Which is good for us, but not so good if there are Coopers hawks around. Nature is balanced though, and Cardinals know how to survive just fine.
