Rough Legs

January 5, 2021

roughleg-icelimb.jpg

It’s always a treat to see Rough-Legged Hawks in the around here. They come from the far north, nesting on the open arctic tundra ground and only migrate into Iowa when a chill comes to the air. This bird got its name from having feathered legs…only its toes and talons are exposed. It also comes in several color forms…some are lighter, some are darker…all are lovely.
