Like The Old Days

January 27, 2022

This year, at least at my local dam, the eagle numbers have been quite good. Yesterday’s counts totaled over 400 birds and these kind of numbers are reminiscent of the old days when we got started in this crazy pastime. Back in 2012 or 2013, we just figured that’s how every year would be. But we learned real quick that if the fish aren’t there in good number, the birds won’t be either. So after a major fish kill in 2013, the next five years would be marginal at best. Sometimes you’d be lucky to see one eagle around the dam. But things change, the fish recovered, the eagles returned, and life is good.
