Cedar Bottoms, as the name implies, is a backwater wildlife area off the Cedar River in Eastern Iowa. It’s one of my favorite places to go to shoot the Northern Lights.
I’ve always wanted to catch some lightning there but for that, things have to line up and yesterday, to my good fortune, they did.
A fast moving storm front came through and behind it was a trailing line of storms stretching to the West. That allowed for about 45 minutes before the next wave of heavy rain came in.
This image is actually two shots…they were back to back but the exposure wasn’t long enough to capture both bolts of lightning so I blended them together. Along with the red sunset and dark ominous clouds, all if it really lined up nicely for a photograph or two.
