Kestrel Flight

November 24, 2020

Kestrel blue 2

The Kestrel is our smallest falcon here in North America. It hunts mostly small rodents, maybe a bird here and there…sometimes even insects like grasshoppers. So with that brief introduction, you can probably get the gist that these little birds of prey are good to have around. Plus they’re pretty good look’n too.

Here’s a tip to keep them healthy around your place. Don’t use rodenticides. These poisons are a big problem…they can kill a lot more than some unwanted mouse. The thing is these rodents don’t die right away…and some can get eaten by a falcon, hawk, or owl, and if they do, it’s bad news for the bird. So use snap traps or live traps…whatever works for you, but ditch all the poisons.
