One of the challenges with the Sandhill cranes on the Platte river is that some of them…well, many of them, will start their day pretty early. Many will depart off the river, even before the sun has risen. Couple that with the common fog that envelopes the river in the early hours, and you have some challenging conditions for photographing birds in flight. Still, these same conditions can sometimes provide very pleasing shots…the fog in particular is a favorite of mine. But I’ll always hope for better light. In this instance, the light before dawn was good enough. Taken with the Olympus EM1 Mark II and the Olympus 300 mm F4 telephoto lens.
