We had some great backyard bird production this year…many youngsters of all varieties so I’m happy about that. Of interest of late is this immature Redheaded Woodpecker. We’ve seen adults often over the last few years, but never had an jimmy showing up like this one does. It has just one little red spot on the right brow…otherwise it’s all black and white and rather dull. But that’s actually a good thing. It has a lot of learn’n to do to keep safe from hawks and other predators…and the last thing it needs right now is a bright read head! That will come in time along with an accrued wisdom for survival.
