Deep Lakes Park is one of the newer outdoor recreational areas in Muscatine County. The park includes 435 acres of which over 120 acres are clear water lakes. This area used to be privately owned and were used as sand and gravel pits…in fact much of the area south of the city of Muscatine has very sandy soil…deposited there by the Mississippi river.
Fishing, hiking, kayaking, biking and swimming, in designated areas, are all possible here.
For me, I enjoy it more in the off season…in winter or early spring when there are less people around. On this evening, following several days of rain…the beach was empty, apart from the puddles and small streams of water, flowing back into the larger pond. It was a nice place to catch the tail end of a sunset.
