September 15th, 2025. There wasn’t much advanced chatter about this one…I think a tracking satellite has been down that measures solar weather…but usually you hear a lot of people (and news outlets) promoting that the northern lights might be firing up on a particular date.
In this particular case I would have probably missed it, but a buddy posted a short blurb on Facebook and so I went out a checked. Truth is it was pretty cloudy here…not dense clouds but enough to mess up a good time.
Despite that, some color came through and I’m sure if someone had clear skies it would have been a very nice show. We’ve had a bit of an uptick in activity in the last few weeks and word is, it could continue for a good while so, as always, we’ll have the camera ready to go, just in case the lights take off.
