Belted Kingfisher

Kingfisher’s, as the name implies, eat small fish…and they are very dynamic when on the hunt. They always dive head first into the water to catch their prey, and fortunately for a bird watcher, they are little chatterboxes…calling out often when they take flight. The bird in this image is a male. The females have a rusty colored belly band and flanks.
