American Pickers – Bald Eagle

January 11, 2020

If nothing else, the American Bald Eagle is versatile.  They’ll hunt and fish of course…but they may also scavenge now and then.  One of their favorite spots to look for a meal is in the backwaters of the Mississippi.  These areas are usually more shallow, with little to no current running through them, so they can freeze pretty fast.  This ultimately can trap a lot of fish in and under the ice and so as this ice eventually thaws, it exposes the fish so the eagles and get some easy pickings.

One thing I have not seen them do much at all has been snagging the fish out of some ice and snow…the pluckage leaves a cool spray of ice crystals, which I think makes for a very cool photograph…did you catch that witty wording? 🙂
