Thunder Struck

December 19, 2020

If you watch an animal or bird enough I think it’s safe to say you get a feel for it’s habits and behaviors…nothing scientific mind you, but a better understanding for sure. In the weeks with the owls I’ve become impressed with their attitudes. Sometimes they tolerate each other and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes they put up with other birds and sometimes they won’t. I’ve seen an owl plummet upon a Marsh Hawk and strike it with a thud that was heard from several hundred feet away. I watched as one chased a Rough Legged Hawk to the horizon. And I’ve witnessed several pin a Barred Owl in a tree and mercilessly harass it until dark. These days, they seem to rule their precious prairie grounds with unmatched tenacity. Zeus would be proud.
