I’ll grant you that there are many birds that can serve as a sign of spring. Robins might be the most notable for many people, but Orioles, Red-winged Blackbirds, Grey Catbirds…are certainly contenders in my mind. But I think for me, these days, the diminutive Hummingbird would take the prize as the primary sign that spring is well underway and summer isn’t far behind. Watching hummers and getting a few photographs of them make the heat of summer worthwhile.
