Osprey Nesting

July 19, 2020

The Osprey is an enjoyable bird to watch.  They consume only fish, so you’ll find them around water.  Lakes, rivers, ponds all work for them…as long as fish are found…they may spot one from high up and plunge, feet first, into the water to grab the top swimmers.   The Osprey was greatly diminished in Iowa for a time.  But they are making a rebound in some parts of the state, and they do well with a little help.  This nesting tray is one of a handful in the Colfax area…this one is new of course but eventually, a pair of osprey might start bringing branches in to create a large nest.  I would love to see a few of these in the area that I live…not far from the Mississippi river.  In time it may happen, with some assistance like this.
