Nebraska Reunion – Sandhill Cranes

March 24, 2020

It’s time to depart again…to gather along the Platte river in central Nebraska…and enjoy a reunion with the Sandhill cranes.  There is nothing else like this phenomenon on the North American continent…an ancient ritual of spring where hundreds of thousands of cranes gather to rest and recharge in preparation for their final push north to their breeding grounds in the upper US, Canada, Alaska, and even Siberia.  Of the worlds grand and massive migrations, this one would rank right up there with any of the others.  With three days of immersion with the cranes I’ll probably hear their calls in my sleep…doesn’t sound so bad to me.
