So common…the American Mourning Dove…they number in the millions around us. They are not colorful or vibrant. Nor do they do they broadcast a loud and boisterous voice or a demanding demeanor. But like all things in nature, there is nothing really common about them.
To the Native Americans, the mourning dove represents spirit and communication with the spirit. They believe that when the mourning dove appears, there will be opportunities and messages for growth. Some Native Americans believe that the cooing of the dove could coax rainfall. In fact, they believed that the mere appearance of a dove was a sign of rain.
For me, they are reminder to never ignore the simple magnificence that surround us every day.
