Judge Not

Morning dove simple magnificence

A few days ago I watched as a Coopers Hawk caught a dove and carried if off after a bit of struggle. For anyone that enjoys backyard birds, such an experience can be a bit saddening. And I was a bit sad for the dove, but happy for the hawk…as that event will let it live for another day.

Predators, like the hawk, often draw the ire of good hearted people who simply forget that this kind of thing has been going on for as long as, well, the earth has existed with life on it. Predator and prey…it’s a symbiotic relationship, which is ultimately necessary for the wellbeing of both species…and like all of nature, is beyond our judgement.
