Garter Snake In Repose

February 18, 2020

I am not a fan of snakes in the sense that I don’t go out looking for them, or want to take them home to show my wife…which would likely get me banned from the house for a time.  I have friends who just love them…so who am I to criticize someone’s love for the natural?

Fact is, I respect native reptiles tremendously…I appreciate the role they plan in the environment…in some cases like this Garter Snake, it is both a prey species, which feeds many things such as hawks, owls, and other mammalian predators, and it’s a predator itself, feeding on insects, worms, small amphibians, and such.  Other larger snakes feed a lot on rodents…so kudos to them.

I don’t see myself ever getting too cuddly with a snake…but make no mistake…I’m a fan, through and through.
