Night Herons love crayfish, or crawdads…or in my mind, a mini lobster. The birds, for the most part, handle these crustaceans with ease…despite the fact that this delectable little critter can bite back…or pinch back would be a better way to put it. Herons might get grabbed now and then, which might delay the inevitable. Usually though, they take the crayfish and strip the legs and pinchers away, leaving only the body and head…a few flips and twists to get it lined up, and down the hatch it goes. A pretty fancy breakfast for a bird I’d say.
