I’m not normally a fan of foul weather…I’d rather sit at home when things get ugly outside. But I have learned that being out among the eagles when things get kind of rough, can make for some fun photography. These are about as far removed from the blue-bird kind of days people seem to wait for to take pictures.
Here, a snow squall was rolling through the area, and it was so cold, a bank of fog…folks on the Great Lakes call this sea smoke…but a fog layer will form only over the water that’s warmer than the frigid air above. This eagle was just coming out of this fog and snow, and finally got close enough to get a focus on it. I ended up with a series of shots while the bird made this pass, and I like every one of them. Any shot with an eagle in it is good by me, but what makes this special is the conditions. It shows what they have to deal with, day in and day out, no matter the weather…and I never would have witnessed it had I not stepped out the door.
