Not long ago I was bemoaning the fact that the winter thus far had been quite mild. It made bald eagle photography kind of tough around here. What I didn’t know was the coldest weather we’ve had in several years was about to come down upon us here in Iowa and it lasted for a good two weeks or more. Not many people were thrilled about it…but one positive was the eagles finally gathered at virtually every large dam on the Mississippi River. A recent count here was well over 100 birds, and the dam down in Burlington to the south had 400 just the other day. It’s made the late winter a little more interesting to say the least.
